Hey guys,

I need to integrate a forum into my 3rd year website project website at Uni ;)

What can you recommend? I’ve been looking at vBulletin but it looks quite complicated and it’s also pretty expensive…

What else is about, free or otherwise.

Any links :)

Many thanks,

SW.

phpbb - www.phpbb.com
mybb - www.mybb.com
Seditio - www.neocrome.net

There are lots and lots and lots of different forum softwares out there.

I have personally used phpbb extensively, but am thinking of moving over to mybb instead.
Thanks!

Would they all tie in nicely with my proposed MySQL/Apache setup :)

--Sorry forgot to mention that earlier--

Can you point me in the direction of any working examples of these forums in action?

Also, of the three, which would you say was the most easy to use/code?

You've used mybb extensively, so I imagine it’s quite well supported online and that there is lots of documentation available for it :)

Cheers,

SW.

I’m well into phpBB 2 and really getting to grips with it – its soooo easy, thanks :)

I know its customisable, but how would I go about creating a sorting of front page notice board, a bit like the one at http://dslzoneuk.net/ - The DSL ZoneUK News section.

I take it the static threads are being read in from somewhere, but how

Any instructions out there that might help, anyone got any experience of such matters?

Thanks,

SW.

Hey guys,

Out of interest, how many SQL databases does a phpBB forum use by default?

I ask because I notice my hosters, Streamlinenet, only offer me two in the package I'm on

I'm still developing offline, but I wanted to check before my publication deadline... I don't want any problems later on in proceedings :p

Cheers,

SW.

Errr they use one database.
Nice :)

That's all I needed to know!

I could get more on my account; but at a cost...

I'm doing this site for Uni, so I'm trying to keep the £££ to a minimium :p

Cheers,

SW.

lol I can see you're going to get a really good mark for just using somebody elses forum software :D
:)

The forum is just to 'bulk' out the site, I'll get the marks in the design and implementation.

You could do a whole project on designing a forum... I had considered it ;)
