Forward facing speedcameras, do they 'get' you?

I've Google'd, but found conflicting advice.

My question is simple, can speed cameras which face you (so you are driving towards them) catch you if you are speeding? If so, how do they work?

Here is an example of one in Glasgow.

Obviously, I never speed but just curious in the name of science.

Isn't it the same as any other speed camera? It calculates the time it takes for you to travel between the marked lines and then works out the speed from that? Could be wrong.

3 pressure sensors in the 3 lines that are close together that are about 10ft before the actual camera.

Axle sensor or something they are called. Try google, it will direct you to plenty of sites that will tell you about the forward facing gatso cameras.

Edit: also aint the lines shown in the picture from a old camera that may have been installed there?

inductive loops in the road before the camera, if you look closely you will see black lines in the tarmac

As Rybo and Rotty say, Truvelo's have sensors in the ground that detect and calculate your speed as you travel over them, if this is thought to exceed the limit then a photograph will be taken once you reach the proving lines, how many you pass indicates your speed as is the proof.

The rear facing Gatso's use radar to measure speed and then take two photographs a set time apart if you're measured over the limit, each line on the ground marks ~5mph, so they count how many you have covered between each photo and that's the proof.

The white lines aren't what measures the speed, they are what proves it, normally by the time they're hit it's a little too late.

that is secondary evidence to the inductive loops

Pretty sure I've been past the one at the bottom of castlemilk/croftfoot the wrong way at a silly speed and been fine. Same for the one near me here....

Just to clarify, there are speed cameras which can catch you driving towards them, but not all of them - the standard gatsos are rear-facing only. The reason there are sometimes lines on both sides of the road is in case of people driving on the wrong side to avoid them.

This^^^^^

My mate is a copper and he said the same

i got done by a forward facing beasty. google for images of the different cameras but they're easy to spot when you're not being distracted by your missus talking drivel.

Normal GATSO style cameras may flash you from the front but you won't be prosecuted for this. The forward facing cameras look different:

Truvelo (front facing)

Gatso (rear facing)

The average speed cameras (SPECS) you get look different again and also get you from the front like Truvelo

Right, cheers guys. So I assume that one I posted can't get you. That's what I thought, but the lines on the other side of the road confused me, plus everyone slows down when approaching it.

I haven't seen any of the forward facing ones (Truvelo) in Glasgow.

I'm pretty sure that in Scotland, due to differences in the law, fixed non-average cameras can only get you from the rear. Think I'm right in saying there's no Truvelo fixed cameras in Scotland.

Thread revive!!!

Went through a 30 towards a forward facing camera and was 'flashed' - looked down and i was doing approx 36mph - 38mph (bah!)

But there was also a stream of traffic in the opposite lane travelling in the other direction - was it me or one of them that is getting a ticket?!

(yes, i shouldn't have speeding :()

ETA: Just street mapped it and it was one of these camers :(

Truvelo's don't flash...unless you have infra-red eyes?
