Mooching... in your house
Hey guys,

After being a PS3 owner for donkeys years I decided to pick up a 360 so am in a position to work through a bit of a back catalogue, the first game I'm playing is Forza 3 (sick to death of waiting for GT5).

My opinion of it is that it is a very very good game, but was possibly rushed out? why do I think this? well there are just some oversights which seem a bit criminal... For example, one of the first cars I used was a Honda CRX (dated car I know but I love em in real life) and I wanted to slap on the Mugen body kit (I wonder why :p) - the front and back look great but there is actually no option to put side skirts on like with other cars, I don't mean there is a limited selection but actually NO side skirts category

I have come across a few issues like this that don't heavily influence my opinion of the game but are just a bit of a shame...

Next up I think its insane that I can't use my Logitech G25... if MS had a competitor of a similar caliber I wouldn't mind so much at least then its just business but they only actually do the crappy plastic wheel so this again is a bit of a disappointment...

So yeah, awesome game but a few things which could be easily rectified with updates let it down don't you think?

My one question is regarding the season mode, it offers you a choice of 3 tournaments and you take your pick and move on, but when I noticed the "events" button I realise you have access to loooads of different tournaments...

Do most people just play through the events since there is more in there or what? the season mode seems more restrictive no? or maybe is it the case that if you do single events mixed in with the career season you end up with more money and better cars/gear than you should have imbalancing the game?

Anyway yeah, thoughts on my criticisms and answer to my season/events question please folks :)

Getting in a different car will often give the choice of different events in season play

So you can kinda choose what you want to do

You might as well play through season mode to get achievements, then after season 6 go through the remainder of the events list.

Also, the official MS wheel is hardly "crappy plastic". Granted it's no G25, but it's not that bad :p

Fair enough, Its not that bad, but its not that good either...

I can't have 2 bloody wheels lying around though, take up a lot of space them buggers!

You moan to much & are far to picky.

Do Season play till you finish 6 & mix it up with a bit of Event play when you are bored.
Personally I use the Event list races to perfect my tunes as you can Tune your car Before each race so by the time I am at last race in the series my tune is about there for online play & Hot lapping.

The season/event list thing is a very good thing, you have a choice of how you want to play the game, some people like the randomness (to some extent) of season play, or a more systematic approach via events.

People do tend to say it is unfinished/rushed, but I think it's more a case of what features/content they could get done in 2 years, what is released is complete enough to make it a very fun game..

There is room for improvement, but that's hopefully what FM4 will address, we can't have a 2 year dev cycle and have GT5 sized content, you have one or the other..

just discussing my thoughts on the game boss...

you think maybe its unfair to say some bits are unfinished?

I think its unfair, yes.

I have loads of criticisms of the painting and customization side of the game, but compared to what other games offer and with this amount of cars (over 400) i still think they did an amazing job.

The amout of content you get for your money is staggering.

The game IS unfinished. I'm saying this as a fan of the game. You can't hide the fact that they obviously ran out of time and decided to not finish the dash boards for some of the race cars. There's plenty of other things that stink of a rushed game.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very good racing game but you're being harsh in saying it's unfair to call Forza 3 unfinished.

Regarding the wheels: The X360 offers a very poor choice of racing wheels. It's almost criminal. I don't mind the Microsoft wheel and it's by no means bad but I would have rather spent a bit more for a better wheel. I couldn't justify buying a Fanatech though.

Thanks for that post Borrish, I knew it wasn't just me :p... Don't get me wrong I still love the game, can't wait to get back home and continue tazzing around in my Integra DC5 :D

This Man speaks the Truth but then he is one of the best Painters on Forza 3.

I Honestly cannot see how anybody can moan about the amount of content you got for your money, Compared to other titles it's Massive.
On top of that Turn10 are Supporting us with updates & gifting out cars on a weekly basis.
Single Player is Massive with 400 odd cars to collect.Paint,Mod,Tune & then race.
Event list gives easy access to Untold races of your own choosing & the career mode takes you through giving you a choice of 3 routes at each turn.
Then there's the Online play that is taking off brilliantly with countless races on untold tracks in loads of different classes.

Personally I prefer to ignore the few things they missed & concentrate on all they gave me.

Ahem http://www.fanatec.de/html/index.php?id=250&lang=

As for the Season Play, it bases the races on the cars in your garage and what you like to play etc. So if you have a lot of american cars it will keep giving you musle car races etc.

I love the game but it has got a few issues, still comparative to the GT5 vapourware it's amazing.

EDIT: Sorry that makes it sound like I don't like it. I do, and I think it's amazing with or without GT5. If you have an ipone might I suggest ForzaTune, helps me out a lot. It's suprising how in depth the tuning is and what a difference a good tune can make to your lap times.

The wheel issue has nothing to do with Turn 10 and Forza. Microsoft rarely allow peripheral licenses to 3rd parties that would directly compete with their own products. Example being the Fanantec wheel which is for PS3, 360 and PC but is much more expensive (and only a niche market) so doesnt compete with Microsofts wheel.

Based sheerly on the OP, I'd say you are picking small faults for the sake of it, although if the biggest problem is no certain side skirts I'd say the game is already bloody deep if this is what certifies a "problem"

You have a corker of a game there, enjoy it's plus points, they outnumber the negatives something silly to 1! :)

Come on....there are games that are much worse than FM3. I agree that a few things could have done with more work but if i were to call FM3 either rushed or polished, i'd say polished.

Developers need deadlines otherwise they would go on developing forever. Luckily, no development house would be so daft as to spend eterneity making the same driving game...

On a serious note, there will be improvements that can be made ot everything in life - especially games. Just enjoy what is there, which is the best racing game on the market.

I've been a forza convert ever since the first game, my only gripe with 3 is that perhaps there should've been a difficulty level between medium and hard, can't seem to find a comfortable challenge in this one.

Isn't "comfortable challenge" an oxymoron?
:p

Still really loving this game... Really enjoying racing in the Lotus Eleven-2 at the moment, and also doing hotlapping in those crazy-fast le-mans cars :D

Nice DC2 btw Spunj... very clean :) (get a JDM gear gator from en EK9 slapped on there - nice bit of red stitching ;))
