Any thoughts on these? Planar for only £119 :eek:

From the reviews ive seen they seem a really good product.

Would they better for music than something like the K712?

I love the K712 for gaming and music but you know.... upgrades :D:D

id be tempted to have a pair for gaming and another for music if it was worth it

If you are an audio pro accustom to the T50RP Mk2, you will likely find the Mk3 version much better sounding, just as durable, but slightly less efficient than the Mk2 model. If you liked the T50RP Mk2 then, you'll probably like the Mk3 model even more now. But I still think you should check out the Audio Technica ATH-M50x as a slightly better sounding (mostly in having better bass response) and sealed alternative.

And there are better buys than the m50 these in the same price area I'd buy something else probably the audio technica MSR7 £140 ish or the akg's

I have the MSR7 for the office they are great and can run on the onboard.

I think innerfedility seems to be the only place that has the M50 in high regards, so im taking that with a pinch of salt

They don't have that Planar bass but they are pretty good, you need to buy the hm5 hybrid pads (about £20) for them iirc it will improve the sound somewhat then there are other mods to look at.

They are the basis for the omnis which have a really good review so the drivers are fine.

Watched Zeos video review and he recommends the Shure pads more as the HM5 take your ear too far from the driver.

Im just more surprised at the price of these

I've seen graphs, they have spike or two up top and the bass rolls off. It seems like it's a bit more "audiophile tuned" meaning rolled off bass, boosted upper end. Most cheap planars, just are not that good to be honest. The "Planar bass" is mainly found on the larger driver planars like the LCD range and on a lesser scale the old Hifiman range. Most planars these days roll off and nothing special.

Tyll thinks very highly of the M50x which is weird, mind you, he has recently said the HE-400S beats the HD650 which is ridiculous lol

Here is a sound Demo from Zeos

impressed for price, but maybe not enough to buy a pair

HD600 sound demo for reference

If you look around you might find some MKIIs for half that and then add some mass loading around the driver, change the pads which is a must really as the standard ones left the drivers rest on my ears and the aftermarket ones can help with that bass.

Basically they are very accurate but don't have the booming bass that many prefer. I like the sharp crack and crispness of my modded mkIIs in gaming.

Really comfy tailored pads.

Or just plain expensive, the fully customised units including internal electronics trweaks.

there are some new modded ones coming out in may by mad_Economist from r/headphones called talos they will be about $200+ shipping.

As for zeos meh he has some weird opinions sometimes and I suppose it would depend on your ears. However Friends don't let friends use stock T50RP pads.

According to others the shure pads will tame the treble too much so you might want to try both see which you prefer.

So as you can see loads of variance it's probably one of the most modded headphones in the business.

not sure they are held aloft in high regard just in high regard in that low end price range.
i more highlighted that as I don't think most people hold the m50 in such high regard so if they are about as good as those or slightly worse seems revealing.
Just saying the MSR7 probably a better buy at just £20 more if you want closed cans

That Mayflower graph looks horrible. Thundersticks looks ok, I can see they tried raising other frequencies to balance out the peak the drivers always have. One thing I've noticed with all T50RP's and their mods is the rough response..Mrspeakers Ether and Ether C have it as well even though they are not related.

I really enjoyed some of Mrspeakers mods like the Mad Dogs.
