Got the window fitters in today to replace two front windows and fit lintels - We also had water pouring in through one of the windows if rain and wind was in right direction and the other window we could open the small window but not close it I think due to weight of bricks pressing on top of window frame.
These are 12 yrs old and it seems it was a bodge job.
He found the glass in old windows was too thin for the frame -he could push glass away from seal and strip - so all these years of getting a draught around back of my neck could be fixed.

So far it's going ok and from what he was saying there was no sign of water being behind bricks so it must have been blown into the frame itself.

The one that did it in first place was a well known local fitter.
 
When we looked round my Mrs noticed a couple of blown windows. We didn't think much of it at the time and set some money aside to sort it after we moved in, they were upvc (although 18 years old tbf) and looked fine otherwise to the untrained eye.

We got 5 panes replaced but the fitter at the time highlighted that the frames weren't installed properly and that we'd continue to have issues, and he was right, panes kept blowing and when winter started we noticed the drafts. I tried to replace the seals but that didn't help in all cases. Almost as annoying was the howling noise they made when the wind blew from certain directions.

Anyway, we got the whole lot replaced and as they did the survey it quickly became apparent that it had been a complete bodge, probably by the same bloke that did the bathroom. There were frames that were the wrong size and sticking out, although miraculously there were no leaks that we noticed.

It cost a lot of money that we didn't plan to spend but it has made a huge improvement.
 
Job is now finished -The window fitter was here for 11hrs -He was on his own and took his time - He did a great job -listened to me when I told him how I wanted lintel fixed along with membrane and he said that is how I do it anyway so supplied him with loads of coffee (he used wifes months supply of sugar) and both he and myself ended up very happy (tip)
Tomorrow all I have to do is replaced vertical blind brackets and give the glass a good clean and that will be a job well done.
 
We had a few problems to be fair, they got one of the frame types wrong and half of the glass was missing georgian bars so our house was a weird mishmash for a few months :cry:. Loads of chasing and broken promises.

We'd never use the company again but the installers themselves were top notch
 
Its a good job I didn't go on Trust pilot before ordering these windows - After getting all blinds and curtains up I had time to double check everything and found one of the opening windows was binding on hinge when opening - Sat there all day ringing fault number - the queue must have been miles long as I didn't get through - That was when I read Trust Pilot - to be fair after I cleaned around hinge and sprayed with silicon oil they work ok.
Failing that the fitter was excellent and the windows are fine but those posts on TP would have put me off -One thing though the negative posts were old - even read this company had been fined a few times for hard selling.

As a clue they are in Bolton and from Asian extraction.:)
