First external video card unveiled

Here’s something for the laptop gamers out there - ASUS has unveiled the first ever external video card for laptops, called the XG Station. It comes with a ASUS EN7900GS graphics card and is equipped with Express Card interface, USB 2.0 and Dolby headphones.

Clock speeds are adjustable from the big knob on the docking station and the big LED screen shows the GPU clock speed, GPU temperature, GPU fan speed, how many frames per second you’re getting, the master volume and Dolby Headphone feature status.

ASUS currently plans to release the XG Station at the beginning of Q2 2007. Full press release after the break.

finally a proper gfx solution for laptop gamers?
it seems to require an external monitor though kinda kills off the portability aspect

Seems like quite a good idea, take a light portable laptop for work duties, bring it home and hook it up to your gaming monitor, external GFX card and speakers and you'd never need a desktop.

I wonder how they managed to ensure enough bandwidth and low latency for an external GPU.

lol WOW, i thought of this idea like last week when i was having a conversation with my friend :( i should have sold my idea sooner
