(FOV) Field of View - Thread

I think a lot of the FOV drama is mostly guff spewed by the same old queens looking for any reason to bad mouth consoles, I doubt most people actually have as much as an issue as they claim, especially those who go on about games being "unplayable" due to lower FOVs.

Saying that however, I do agree that limited FOVs on higher resolution displays are annoying and for some people can cause problems. I completely agree with what TB says in regards to it being absurd that developers don't take into account the fact that most PC gamers play closer to their (larger/higher res) displays than people playing the same game on a console on a TV for instance.

I certainly need to be able to change FOV in order to avoid migraines with FPS games. Hate those that refuse to allow this simple change.

Nausea and a feeling of being closed in aren't pleasant, and I can 100% assure you it is real for me. I play BF3 at 90 degree FOV, which is fine but the default wrecks my head. Deus Ex in default trim was indeed "unplayable" for me. Not everyone is affected, true. There is no good reason to exclude these options imo, not everyone is colour blind but you wouldn't complain about the inclusion of the options

I've not watched the vid, but what governs FOV on a pc?
edit: nvm, just watched the vid
screen size and resolution?
GPU quality?
How do you know when you suffer from bad FOV?

I play BF3 on the rig in my sig, not sure what FOV is set to......what's yours set to?

edit: what game is being played where he has an uzi and a throwing axe. Like the look of that. :)

Great video, I hope people follow his advice not to buy games without FOV options, regardless of whether you can change within a config file. It is a basic feature required by many people including myself and it not being included is sickening.

When I first started PC gaming I didn't realise the problem initially, starting out playing css, then moving on to other games I soon realised something was wrong. I now expect this feature in every game I play.

It's guaranteed there are people who do not realise this is the root of their problems, so this issue needs more publicity.

Totally agree. For years I didn't understand why some games made me sick - literally physically nauseous - and others didn't at all. In the end it seemed such a simple fix but it's bizarre that it's not a standard option in this day and age.

Syndicate has really poor FoV, and there was no way to change it either. These days some basic settings should be standard in all games.

I just changed my FOV on BF3 from 60 to 90 because of this thread and I cant beleive the difference, there has always been something that irritated me about it and now I know what it was, I've been PC gaming for 15 years and never even bothered to look into what it was and always left it on default, totally regret it!

borderlands is far worse than mass effect. vomit inducing.

Good thing you can change the FoV on that now , though by mods. I can't remember if it's included in the game now. But I will agree that Borderlands had some horrendous FoV issues and the FoV change when sprinting was ridiculous.

The mass effect series is the worst for me.

Horrible FOV experience, and no way to change it.

You can but it involves hacking the Coalesced.ini file - first thing I did upon booting Mass Effect 3. Have you tried multiplayer playing as a Krogan? The back of his head takes up half the screen!!
