I'm back baby!
Spawned from the Transfer Window thread.

My opinions below:

Finishing: Fowler
Speed: Anelka
Control: Fowler
Anticipation: Fowler
Movement: Fowler
Heading: Tied, neither do it often enough
Creativity: Tied, I've noticed that Fowler isn't as greedy as he appears in his time at Leeds and creates quite a bit
Experience: Fowler - This is because although Anelka has spent time at great clubs, including Real madrid, he hardly played for them!

I think Fowler is far superior and I'd much rather have him in my side than Anelka.

i think most people will agree?

you could even argue that anelka has greater experience, having played in about 10 different countries and in far better teams than fowler? :)

Does it matter how many countries you've played in?

We're talking about premiership players, and Fowler is one of the best strikers to have ever played in the Prem. Anelka hasn't played anywhere near as many prem matches, and after Arsenal he's been around a bit, but has hardly played any matches for each club!

The only depertment Anelka beats Fowler in is speed. As someone just said to me, Anelka is more like on a par with Radzinski. Though I'd rather have Radzinski too...

Where did I say that Fowler was better than Shearer?

Didn't I say 'We're talking about premiership players, and Fowler is one of the best strikers to have ever played in the Prem.'?

You guys compared him to THE best in Shearer and proved my point for me :)

Thanks

Oh, and Anelka has a long way to go before he can be considered the class of Shearer and Fowler et al

Good job we have the OcUK Yahoo Fantasy football league to settle this.

Those who think Fowler will get you lots of points, pick him for your team.

Those who prefer Anelka, or Henry / RVN / Owen do likewise.

By taking top of the league and staying top, I know how much Anelka has consistently put in great performances in this season to date.

Yeah, and Beattie will be top points. Does that make him the best?

No.

fowler is similar to rvn they both score a lot of tap ins

Yep, that is a part of Fowler's game, but he also scores good goals (hat-trick against Bolton, Hat-Trick against Leicester spring to mind. All good goals)

It's a no-brainer for me too. Anelka won't keep his dummy in long enough to settle at a club whereas Fowler will.

Fowler isn't without his disciplinary problems, but he was popular at Liverpool both with the Kop and players alike. He's still popular now, and that says something.

I'd pick Fowler over Anelka every time. At least he'll never hold the club to ransom like Anelka has tried to a few times.

These two don't bear any similarity though

anelka does have an attitude problem, although a lot of that probably stems for him (as a young player) attracting attention from a big club like Real Madrid who at the time were prepared to make him one of the most expensive players ever. this probably gave him a big head and led him into believing that no club was good enough for him, but since his move out of madrid, he has come down to earth a bit and doesnt seem to be nearly as moody. (though he did recently turn down the chance to play for france, but i think he was just trying to get back at the french manager).

I see that, and his brothers didn't help that in the slightest.

I remember the incident with the French national side and thought he did the right thing in not playing TBH.

My disappointment were I a City fan would be the fact that he doesn't celebrate goals. He never did. He doesn't smile, he doesn't seem to talk to anyone. He's a loner and not a team player.

i quite like that in a player...:)

Not celebrating?

No rapport with the fans, looks like he doesn't care. Hardly endearing qualities.

Thats why I like Smithy so much. You can see he'd walk through fire for Leeds.

HAHAHAH right gilly soz i posted on another footy board  dunno how but i am a ..............

wot i woz saying is transfer window open today

fowler on he's way to manchester would u still have the same respect for him...(think that is it  LOL)

Feel the same way about him now as I did when he was at Liverpool. So if he was pushed out of the door at Leeds then yes, my opinion wouldn't change. If he added his name to the judas list then my opinion would go down.

Thats not what Hasselbaink did though is it, and I am sure that had he stayed that season, we'd have won the title.

He refused point blank to ever kick another football for the club. He held us to ransom. He left for Athletico Madrid after we'd plucked him out of nothingness (3rd choice striker at Benfica IIRC) and made him the player he was, and then Athletico were relegated/ Athletico only came in for him after he said he wouldn't play for Leeds.

So the prospects thing is out of the window, the club went down, and the money thin g isn't true either as he wasn't offered a better contract from somewhere else before saying it.

He also left it far too late for us to sign someone to replace him.

yeah but he became top goal scorer in spain (the best league in EU). perhaps athletico madrid was just a stepping stone to a bigger spannish club. (barca or real, maybe?)

as i remember the problem was that leeds were not paying him as much as he wanted, hence he asked to be put on the transfer list (this was all done during the summer, so leeds were quite ok to sign another playere during this time). did athletico madrid not agree to pay him higher wages?

Or perhaps he thought Athletico Madrid were a better team than Leeds, which obviously wasn't the case.

It wasn't that Leeds weren't paying him enough. As I said, they plucked him out of nowhere, made him the household name he was, then offered to make him the highest paid earner (by quite some way) at the club.

I think it's way off to do what he did in the face of that.
