Hey all,

So this board is pretty cheap atm.

Just looking for any owners of this board on here. If you could give me your experience of it up to now.

My birthday is right around the corner so I would really like to make a decision based on your reviews and opinions. *cause you are all pretty cool people* :)

ummm i guess thats it.

OH yeah one more thing.

On the Quantum force website. i see

System & Chipset Drivers for Blackops
Version: V8.3.1.1011
Intel Chipset Driver.

Surely this isnt the latest...?!?!

Intel has far more recent drivers for the x48 chipset than that... Or am i missing something here?

There was a rumour going round that Foxxconn is pulling out of the retail market so support may be patchy or non existant in the future. Personally i would go for one of the more mainstream brands such as Gigabyte or Asus.

I was also looking at the Blackops.I dug out CustomPC mag that reviewed it.It was on par with ASUS RAMPAGE EXTREME for performance/overclocking.

I still think its a good price for a top X48 board thats was retailing at £250 not so long ago.

aries2580, I said it before but I don't think it sunk in, if you want to do some LGA775 overclocking pick up an ASUS P5Q-E (or Pro), new, used, whatever but keep it to £100 ish.

They really are good, but you don't know yet! :p

He did say it before you know :)

P5Q-E is a good overclocker, I'm new to clocking but it was a doddle with that board.

I had one and it was a very good clocking board but the only thing you need to change is the northbridge top if you are going to use watercooling as the stock top is made of ally, for support im sure the Foxconn lads on the XS forums will help out if need be.

:o Ahhhaaa ok.

Well if I do get it. Remember you said that 10ns is rubbish? Well i'll need some help getting that down to an acceptable amount :(

but a lack of support in the future could be a big deal breaker...

Potentially, but then how many people here update their BIOSeses as regularly as they should update their GPU drivers?

Before its decommissioning, I hadn't touched my previous motherboard in four years from a BIOS perspective, and Soltek had disappeared from the market.

As long as the problems with OCZ memory are fixed in the latest bios currently available.
Then I would probably get it... From the googling i have done I'm not sure if it has been fixed or not.

*hides from Big.Wayne* :D

nothing compares to this :P

There's plenty of good RAM out there that doesn't need to rely on gimmicky cooling to sell it. I'm not a huge fan of ASUS, but Big.Wayne is bang on the money about the P5Q series motherboards. They are superb clockers, and the extra money spent on the blackops is largely buying you extra 'bundle' in the box.

I was looking at timings on the ram. Not the cooling. I though those timings were some of the best at that speed no?

and fair enough about the PQ5 series. *although im still tempted to go DDR3, but thats cause im never satisfied so ignore that* :D

It's quite a beast of a board, but it can be difficult to get clocks out of it. The board does require patience to get the most out of it.

My P5K-D was easier to use, but the blackops is capable of higher clocks.

The dual BIOS is excellent, and the OC gears is very handy

Just a shame that the BIOS updates seem to have stopped with G32 :(

Have a look at these threads

I have a blackops and it is a superb clocker, i also had three other mobos(2x asus, gigabyte) and the blackops ops bet both of them for max clock, weather or not that was just me or not i dont know, but, in order to get your system running sweet with a blackops you have to be prepeared to spend a lot of time in tweaking it as there is so many features on the board.

foxconn is NOT pulling out of the retail market i have talked to them and try side the rumer is whong and suport will be ther for the life of the bord

Hmm the prices of the foxconn's have really dropped, bit off topic but check out the price of the x58 renaissance for under £150!!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone have any solid info/experience with the renaissance? It's damned cheap and I want to know whether I'll have issues with it, or its better to spend the extra £30 for the UD3R.
