Foxconn P35AP-S fault

Hi there,

I've been using this motherboard since the end of March and things have been great... until now.

I've got 4Gb of Crucial Ballistix installed in duel-channel mode under Vista 64-bit. The system's been running at stock speeds as I really don't need to coax everything out of it.

In the last few days I've started to get blue-screens ranging from PFN_LIST_CORRUPT to MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

Needless to say, I thought that one or more RAM modules might have gone bad. Downloaded and ran Memtest86+ and have since discovered that all of them pass so long as they aren't installed in DIMM's 1 and 2 - the board seems to have gone.

Now, it's too late to RMA it here, obviously, but Foxconn's website doesn't seem to allow for it's return as it wasn't one of their engineers that installed it.

So what do I do now? I've got a faulty board that I've had for 6 weeks and no real idea where to go from here!

Any help folks? Please... apologies for the ramble!

10x...

Contact OcUK. They will be able to handle the RMA since it's still in its first year of warranty. It'll save you having to post it to god-knows-where.

Thanks for the reply.

I contacted OcUK today and they've agreed to RMA the motherboard and both RAM kits.

Interesting twist though. My neighbour has the same motherboard and RAM kits as I do so I decided to test my RAM in her machine. All four modules failed, testing her own ones showed them to be perfect as one would expect. I took her modules and installed them in my own board (dual-channel) and tested them and again, they passed without a problem.

I now think that instead of the motherboard having failed the RAM has instead. How can that happen? How can 4 sticks of RAM fail at once? Does the test passing my neighbour's RAM in by board prove it's OK? Should I amend the RMA to include only the RAM kits, as I really don't want to be charged in the event that the board's fine.

Sorry for all the questions, it's just this one's a little confusing, that's all! :)

Test each stick on its own in your board.

Ballistix are well known for dying, so that may be what has happened.

Tested all four separately, all four failed.

I guess that proves it's the RAM and not the board then... I'll amend the RMA tomorrow. Yes?

Thanks!

Cancel the OcUK RMA and send then directly to Crucial in Scotland. It'll be far faster.

You can contact them here. They're usually pretty fast in getting it back to you.

Alright, new RAM arrived yesterday. Installed it and fired up the machine, booted into Memtest86+ and ran the test.

The memory failed.

I would now assume that it's the damned motherboard that's gone!

Is there any possibility that it may have taken this new RAM with it?

I would *REALLY* hate to think that were the case. I'll try testing it in another system with the same board.

Time to raise a new RMA...

Are they failing when testing one stick at a time? If so then try both channels.

If not then boost the northbridge voltage by 0.1v for running 4 sticks.

Also ensure the memory voltage is set to 2.2v.
