I took these in February/March but have only just managed to resize them for web and upload them now... They were taken with my as then new purchase, Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 OS. Awesome lens and absolutely stunningly sharp (and it even focussed correctly after being calibrated...) even wide open...

First stop was the local lake as per usual with lens tests! On the one day in Feb/March it wasn't raining... I decided to have a play with the lightroom presets on some of them due to the "interestingness" of the subjects...

Next stop a couple of weeks later was the local wildlife park for a few slightly more interesting subjects and a bit of a play with the DoF after calibration...

Any C&C welcome, along with any comments on processing!

The first 4 dont really look in focus/sharp? sorry
but the really really love the rest! well done

how far away from the fox where you?? amazing detail on the face/head

Thanks.

They are in focus, the first one is focussed on the front moorhens head and the second the head as well. I think the processing gives them a softer look however, which I do quite like with them, I actually have the second one as a desktop on my 27" monitor. :) Perhaps I should have had a bit more or a bit less DoF in the first image though, so the back moorhen was fully OOF or was fully in focus, not sure.

The other two are sharp at 100% but I admit they don't look as sharp as the images below them! Perhaps I need to up the export sharpening in Lightroom for those 4?

I was struggling with the focussing on that day though, even at full micro adjust it would back focus fairly majorly, those were some of the few where the focus was on the money. It's a little annoying when you get a stunningly sharp focal plain 1ft behind the bit you want in focus...

The fox was in a pen so I was about 3 foot above it and just the other side of the wall so probably about 6-10ft away. It shows the lovely DoF you can get at 300mm with an f/2.8 lens though!
