FPS double screen refresh rate

Hi all, recently moved from console to PC gaming and getting used to manually adjusting settings, spent most of yesterday playing with different resolutions and FPS.

Using Afterburner OSD, I found my temps were lowest when i set all FPS options to 120 FPS which is double my TV`s refresh rate of 60hz, when set to 60hz to match the screen the temps were higher

Are there any drawbacks to this 120FPS setting

All cpu & gpu was higher, temps and usage, I have found that I get even lower temps with V sync turned on, I have read it causes lag however if it does it is barely noticeable to me and I am still getting kills at the same rate, so it seems to indicate there is no real lag

Is there any downside other than lag to using V sync ?

Best would be using freesync/g-sync. V-Sync is the old method.

I play on TV most do not have sync tech, even the new TV i am looking at has things like low latnecy and VRR, 120HZ, but no mention of any sync technologies
