FPS drop. Application to monitor processes?

Right I've been trying to work this one out for a while.

I have an x1900 and my system is all up to scratch but for some reason while playing games I'm getting an occasional FPS drop. It feels like a process might be periodically hogging my cpu.

I'm after an app that will let me log whats going on with the rest of my system while I was gaming. Anyone know an app that can do this?

Not that I know of, AV isn't updating or something silly like that is it?

No. This is happening every time I fire up a source based game.
