FPS drops in games?

Hi. I keep getting FPS drops in games such as Minecraft where on average max settings I get 250fps but frequently drops to ~100 which is annoying ~(but maybe it's because I don't have 64bit Java). Also, on CoD4 I usually get 200-250fps constant but when I aim in or get shot it also drops to ~100
Here are my specs;
i5-2500
8gb 1600
GTX 560 (Non-Ti)
 
It is barely worth worrying about getting drops to only '100FPS' really is it? ;)

Have you got 120Hz monitor?

I do worry because even though it's 100 fps dropping from 250-100fps the lag is still very noticable
I have a 70Hz monitor, but as I say I can still feel the lag
 
You could always use a frame rate capper that's in the msi afterburner tool and cap the game to 100fps, that way you won't notice the lag, frame rate drops at all :).

Most people notice huge frame rate drops, but you're less likely to notice a lower stable frame rate at that high range.
 
Just turn V-Sync on. There is no need for 200+ FPS as you cannot see it and your monitor cannot deal with it.

I have a 60Hz monitor. I have V-Sync on a I game at a smooth 60FPS all the time with no screen tearing. Simples. :)

I tried changing to 100fps limit but I get screen tearing, I've upped it up to 200 and it seems fine for now

cod you want high fps and so the worms are everywhere :p

please lets not go into the fps naked eye arguement its sunday and cant be arsed :p in cod you want as high fps as possible.
 
If you can notice the difference above 60fps you have super powers... it has been proven on Myth Busters!

It's not just about how fast things move on screen but about the general responsiveness and performance of the entire application (even without going into stuff like CoD and Q3/etc, as mentioned above).
