Hi all

I bought a 7900xt and LG 38 inch montior a month or so ago from overclockers and since then I have had big fps drops in all games- COD, No Mans Sky ect. I have bought a new psu, and tried a 4080 super but to no avail. I am runing a tuf x570 motherboard and a 5800x3d and coisair 3200 memory. I have also tried the memory and taken out one dimm but again no luck. I also did a fresh install of windows 11 which is on a m.2 in primary slot and games are on m.2 in second slot. I thought it must be the new gpu but overclockers are retuning it with no fault found. I am out of ideas. Please can anyone suggest anything to try?

What gpu did you have previously? What cooling are you using for the 5800x3d and what case is the pc in and how are the fans set up? Have you checked cpu temps to see if it's throttling due to heat? I presume the monitor is 4k? Was the previous monitor also 4k? A 4k monitor will tax the gpu more which in turn will make it run hotter. All that heat gets dumped in the case so if your case airflow isn't good enough or your cpu cooler isn't good enough it can lead to thermal throttling. I notice your motherboard has no heatsink for the primary M2 slot and with it being between the gpu and cpu it's going to have a lot of heat dumped on it and could be throttling. M2 drives really need cooling so have you got a heatsink on it?

as lsg1r has said your gpu is pushing way more pixels and there for quite a bit more gpu power is required. your fps is bound to drop with 25-30% higher resolution.
