I would like to know what frame rates people get with either a r280x or 290x in bf4 and similar first person shooters please .
asking as due to an upgrade soon and want to compare frame rates of both to see if its worth the extra for a 290x .

thanks

A single 280x will see absolute mins when overclocked of around 50fps on maps like paracel storm and seige with 64 energetic players. The average will be close to 60fps, but the max is totally dependent on where you are looking and what kind of action is taking place maybe sometimes hitting 140fps+

I get anywhere between 80-110 on my 290X - but it really does depend on Map/Mode/# of players etc.

On maps like Shanghai when the building collapses and there's general chaos going around like choppers and explosions going off it definitely drops to around 40-50.

I have a 290 non x which with ultra settings at 2560x1440 averages 60-65fps in near enough all the maps.

so if I am only using a 1080 monitor is it worth paying more for a 290x ?

Normally no.
Mantle will also add benefit to the 280x for BF4 down the line also.
a 7970 you might buy a used card for cheap which would be great value.
I like new tech but with one screen a 280x will go a long way still.

NOOO. Honestly, get a r9 290 (non-x). They produce a little less heat/nosie than the x, which you can use to up the fan limit, and overclock to make performance near enough the same as the 290x, but they are so similar anyway, why pay so much for more for the x for a inconsequential real life performance upgrade?

whut ? 7970ghz is literally a 280x

As a 290x owner I would also suggest just getting the non x version. The performance difference at 1080p is just not enough to warrant the extra £100 I'm. Unless you can snag one for the second price of course. I think I saw a 290x on mm going for 375

I have a 290X ASUS Ref design. The AMD Gaming Evolved App tells me that my Average FPS is 79.2 on BF4. I usually play it for around 2-3 hours so I go through every map.

Having said that, there are dips at times, but not often.

I have all settings maxed/Ultra. AA @ 2X @ 1080p. I don't let the GE app optimize settings.

can I divert slightly guys and ask do you all use 75hz or 144hz monitors as looking at the average frame rates of 70-80fps will you see any difference

Some people obviously run around looking at their feet.
Also if you look at the ULTRA preset in game it includes 4xAA.
Anything else is custom ultra. Very misleading at times.

But 290x at 1080/ultra will general stay above 80fps but can drop to 60 and even below 60 in complete chaos . All maps are different and certain areas of maps will drag the frames down.
