OK, until a few months ago, I was a big FPS online player. But after my PSU died on my machine, I bought a temporary HP that comes with onboard graphics. Hence, I haven't been playing any games.

I tend to play UT GOTY and UT2004 mostly and some COD4. I could resume my old pastimes by simply buying another PSU for my Shuttle SN45G that's running an OC'd AMD at around 3100. However, I'm toying with the idea of buying a completely new pc capable of running CRYSIS.

So, my question is, is CRYSIS good at multiplayer online and how does it compare with UT and COD4? Is it worth it?

If it isn't any good then it would be an expensive mistake to make. Knowing myself, I'd spend around £700 on a new setup and then spend the next year trying to get the system to run quiet along with more hardware/fan changes.

Let me start by saying I like Crysis. However, do I like it £700...nope is the simple response! I'm at the stage where I think Hardware is ahead of Software, save some money and play the 99% of games you can play with a 50% saving on the hardware (a 8800GT can handle almost all games well)

My PC is in the sig. if I was to buy today I'd save a lot of money on my build (5200, 8800gt etc)

Crysis MP is a good bit of fun, but its not a sink your teeth into sorta game. Youd want to get Crysis Warhead which comes with Wars, which is where all the MP effort is being put now.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into a setup based on e5200 and a passive gfx card. Hopefully, will try Crysis Warhead as suggested along with the other games mentioned. Please feel welcome to suggest any minimum/recommended specs.

I tried the demo for UT3 when it came out and frankly the gameplay was poor. I think perhaps epic just fluked UT99 Goty - it still plays very well today after around 10 years. And don't even get me started on GoW that they produced on the xbox - what's the lag all about?!?! Never had that problem on the PC.

I'll also dig my HL2 disc out - it seems like I'll be busy this summer if I get my kit sorted.

crysis wars is basically battlefield 2 (except you buy vehicles, so yours can't be stolen). So its good. Though don't be buying a whole new machine for just crysis ^^

If I'm honest with myself, then that is exactly what I'm leaning towards. My current HP system with onboard satisfies 95% of my wants/needs (office, browsing, divx and iplayer). And it's a very, very quiet system. I keep convincing myself of the need, that a new system will engage me with better sound (xfi) and games and faster boot up times. But in reality, that would cost me the price of a new system which is greater than an xbox, ps3 and wii altogether. That and I'm most likely to dissapoint myself with a new noisy system, man, I don't even like noisy clocks that go tick-tock in the night.

A part of me also thinks I should be doing a greater good. Maybe I'll buy the system anyway and donate a percentage to a worthy cause.

For me, it is large gap between want and need.

Humans, funny creatures.
