Have been playing MP FPS for decades and in every game I will completely ignore the sniper weapon. Anyone else do this?

After playing CS:GO and seeing the massive advantage the snipers have I'm thinking I'm gonna have to learn to use it. Still don't want to though. :p

Depends which game, you simply have to play sniper in battlefield games at some point. Some are great in COD too.

Honestly, now I think about it I'm missing playing MW2 now, intervention and the M14 were great fun.

Being able to use a sniper rifle in any online FPS is always a plus, there are times where it's simply required as the best tool for the job.

Personally, I think the sniper detracts a lot from an adversarial game with certain objective parameters, more notably when it's a low skill method of sniping. The mindset of your team and opponents when there are no snipers about makes a closer knit team, I think.

While this doesn't stop me using it, I rarely ever do in any game; unless said game requires you to take note of range, wind, elevation and adjustments.
Unfortunately 99% of game are too quickly played, respawn based to make use of that so it's kill, be killed, over and over.

Don't misjudge what I'm asking, could you give an example? Genuinely curious (to further the conversation).

Really depends on what game to be honest. I love using sniper in some games and hate it in others.

I like playing sniper though as it's like you are going rogue, whilst still helping the team but not in the heat of action all the time.

Also the thought of people raging as they wonder how I've sniped them from so far away always makes me smile.

I have never been a sniper in any game. I might have picked a sniper pack just to see what it was like in BC2, and maybe BF3 but otherwise I have never actually 'played' as a sniper

Sure.

TF2 - 2fort, you're being cleansed by snipers. It's difficult to get in behind them if their team has their base locked down. You go sniper (providing the team doesn't have 5 already :p)

I'd be interested in an MP FPS without a sniper rifle.

I honestly think CS would be better without it.

Pretty sure there are ways of disabling sniper rifles in counter strike? There are servers out there that kill you if you buy a sniper rifle if I remember rightly :p

Same with DOD as well.

I think it's all about scale of maps. If you can shoot up to 200m+ (Like BF) then they're fine, but in close quarters like CS, they're just overpowered 1 shot cannons a lot of the time.

lol cod4 without sniper :p

i do like snipering and im comfortable at it in most fps games but snipering should be left to those that can do it properly

nothing worse in matches used to play can you snipe ? yes i can snipe , they miss and we lose :D this is why i say if you cant snipe dont :p

cod4 showing why its so important

Theres a huge difference to sniping in cod and BF. Anyhoo, i try to avoid in Simulation games. I suck at it. I still blame my £5.00 mouse.

I don't like sniping as hiding somewhere with a limited field of view and just waiting is quite tedious. I much prefer to have some sort of assault rifle and be running around caving in heads at short to medium distances.
