Getting a bit bored of all the fps games out at the moment so im going way back in the past for some old school fun.

First up is Quake. I just got it from steam and been trying to get GL quake to work with no success. Had a little google and found a mod called darkplaces which gets everything working great and can run it on the highest res. Its also got a server browser so you can play online.

Anyone up for some oldschool multiplayer? :D

I have quake running in windows7 64bit and everything is working great.

If you really want to play it decently online, you should get nQuake. Anyone can download that and be good to go, no need for the original game and it runs through ezQuake.

Ill grab a few games with you later though, sure.. Although been playing Quake Live recently, so haven't played it for a few months.

How's the cheating nowadays? Last time I went on for a bit of old-school quake the place had been ruined by the release of the source code. That was a while ago tho.
Would be nice to get some old school QWTF action as well.

Nobody cheats in it. Some people are very, very skilled though, so if you are one of the people that QQ's and runs off a server yelling cheat every 2 minutes, I wouldn't bother.

I was actually thinking of running a Quake amateur tourny at some point, might well do it.

I have gone back to play through AvP1, Kingpin and Quake 1 and 2. Must admit, the recent FPS games are all more of the same and get boring far to quickly. Only recent one keeping my interest is Metro 2033 and Stalker still.

I am up for a game of FarCry if anybody is interested?

Still a few servers floating about.

I only finished Far Cry a few months ago and thought what a good online game it could make now that everyone is running it at 60fps. Hiding in the folage etc. I thought about posting on here about it.

that nquake is pretty cool. I must admit the other one has some really good graphics tweeks and looks really cool. I am playing the single player again and forgot how great it is.

FPS gaming peaked for me around the time of MOHAA, Quake 3, UT, Soldier of Fortune 2. I still regularly play MOHAA and SOF2, just so much fun to play.
