I've a craving for a FPS multiplayer game but can't find my COD4 discs/code anywhere.

I used to play a lot of Battlefield 2, COD1/2 and then COD4.

I was pretty good and have been going back to COD4 whenever I get the craving but as time goes on you worry what the servers are like.

Now, COD4 is £10 on Steam so I could just get it and see what it's like or I could look at something else.

I prefer games that require more skill than gadgets. CDO4 had that balance between character tweaks, in game kill streak perks and skill that I really enjoyed. No fighting over vehicles which was always great too.

Used to play a little counterstrike in the day but don't enjoy sitting around waiting for rounds to end.

I've been out of the loop for a while so would appreciate any suggestions :)

I haven't found anything that is truly a substitute for COD4 and all the kids are playing these insipid battle royale games these days.

Might be worth checking out the modern Star Wars Battlefront games if you can find them cheap see if they work for you. (Possibly available on EA access I dunno).

Yeah I've been considering the new battlefront game anyway as I loved the original, and yes, this fortnite craze really isn't for me, seems like there is too much luck involved, and building walls etc while playing????

Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 1 from recent times are a good bet.

Personally I can't recommend them and even Battlefront was through gritted teeth - BF1/5 are dumbed down gameplay wise from BF4 while retaining all the bugs and issues of the Frostbite engine that should have been fixed many years ago - but they aren't forced to fix those issue when people just open their wallets every new title.

Battlefield 5 plays like CoD1/2 (probably most comparable to the United offensive expansion), if the game had been more historically accurate it would have been hailed a success

They really should have taken a few more pages from what worked well in Battlefield 1942 (and what didn't) as well as actually fix those **** legacy bugs.

Well, I've bought COD4 again for Steam but under friends suggestions, I've also installed Apex Legends and Warframe.

Had a couple of rounds on Apex Legends despite it being battle royale, meh, not overly fussed about it. My main issue with these games is that to get better you need to practice, and to practice, you need to play a lot, but then you're stuck waiting for rounds as well as relying on strangers.

Warframe, I'm enjoying playing it solo through the storyline. Seems ok so far if a little easy.

Definitely going to look at one of the later battlefield/cod/battlefront games as well as finally installing all 3 mass effect games and playing them all through. Never finished the first but Warframe makes me think about finally playing it properly.

DOOM is quite frankly superb. The sound track is amazing and it's just pure fun for a few hours or mindless killing stuff. Loved it to bits.

Escape from Tarkov is a great game and well worth considering.

It is a hardcore shooter though - not for the feint-hearted. Best FPS game out there from a pure gun/squad play perspective, IMO.

There is a wipe coming, potentially this week (money, gear and levelling) so everyone will be starting from same point - not a bad time to get into it.
