hello i received my fractal define s case today and was wondering what the best fans would be for it? its completely open air case no obstructions the fans that come with it arent very strong and its actually quite a big space in there, would high airflow be better for this case for intakes? and also what exhaust fans would be ideal for this case? im looking for quiet fans preferably lol

Assuming there is no obstruction such as a HDD cage, yes high airflow is the way. Some of the following will do, in position such as the bottom or side and top. That case definitely has a lot of fan slots, I think you will be fine without using all of them.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Phanteks PH-F140XP PWM 140mm Fan - Black / White £15.95
Total : £18.23 (includes shipping : £1.90 Ex.VAT).

so they are ok as intakes? i can mount at the bottom and front as intakes, do they move good amount of air? reason i ask is there is lots of room from front to back of case just want to make sure there is sufficent airflow being pushed around the case, i also have the hyper 212 evo cpu cooler installed

Yes, I'd add one as exhaust at top as well.

have you any experience with the new ek vardars? can they be used as intakes even though they are more optimised for rads? baring in mind i will be doing water cooling in the future

Nope but I wouldn't recommend them for case fans. As you said yourself they are optimised for rads therefore airflow isn't great.

Akasa Apache on the other hand can be used for both radiators and case fans.

have you used the akasa apache? the reason i asked about the vardar fans is i watched a video by jayztwocents and the airflow seemed ok, im no expert on fans but he put paper approximately a ruler and half away from the fan and it seemed to be a strong fan in the way of moving air

Yes I have one 120mm in my case, very quiet and moves a decent amount of air. 140mm will be even better and perfect for your use.
