The other thread about the Fractal R3 got me interested, so I took a look on their website and saw the Design Mini (which if I'm not mistaken is a mid-tower?).

I was just wondering if modern larger graphics cards (like a higher-end Radeon 6xxx) would fit in a case like that or if I would need to look at the R3 instead.

AFAIK it hasn't been released yet but it can support graphics cards up to 400mm long if you remove one of the HDD cages. 69**s are just less than 11 inches so would fit, not sure about clearance with the HDD cages both in though. Am very tempted by it but can't justify a new mobo

Thanks, that sounds intriguing.

A little off topic, but are they any many downsides to going down the M-ATX route for a gaming machine?

Considering this because I'd like a smaller tower if I can help it, as long as there aren't any real drawbacks.

Hmm...

I'd want to know where I could get a second right side panel if I bought one. Can't stand these side vent holes...

On another note, what would you call a disadvantage ~D~?

You can't cram as many GFX cards in, you have less space for the build, less slots for HDDs, 5.25" bay devices and gadgets.

But what would you call essential for gaming.

I'm fine with a couple of HDDs, one good gcard, maybe a soundcard and enough space for decent airflow/cooling. Something else needed there?

Yeah, when this comes out I think I will get it, has the sober kind of design I like (current case being a P180 mini, also mATX) but only after seeing if they can send me another blank side panel...

That's about the same here. Though I do have a sound card and USB expansion card along with that.

Though my current case (Raidmax Sirius) barely fits my HD4870 - I'm surprised a mid-case can fit a new graphics larger card.

Looks like I'll be on the look out for one of these soon :D
