I am looking to build a NAS/Windows Home Server system using the above case.

I plan to install 8 HD's but need advice on the other components to put in. Not sure how powerful it should be. It will only be for storing of files, photos and movies. It will also be used to rip blu-rays/dvd's, downloading torrents etc

I want to use it to stream itunes to other computers and for people to stream movies onto their computers so not sure if FreeNAs or WHS is the best to use for this.

I also want it to be setup as RAID

I have a separate HTPC set up that I want to use to stream from the above new build. I have installed XBMC on the HTPC.

Want to spend as little as possible but not compromise the system. Will not be used for any gaming.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking at the following components

Fractal Design R2 Titanium Case
Asus M4A785TD-V Evo AMD 785G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 555 3.20GHz Black Edition (Socket AM3)
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24
Fractal Design 140mm Silent Cooling Fan x 2
Fractal Design 120mm Silent Cooling Fan x 1 (you get two with the case)
LG BH10LS30.AUAU10B, 10x Blu-Ray Writer, 16x DVD±R, 8x +RW, 6x -RW, 12x RAM

Then get some HD's to fill her up with, looking to put in 8 of them.

I like the idea that the raid, graphics and sound cards are built into the mobo but do prefer Intel processors so if there is an alternative then i'm all ears.

Not sure if there are enough fans and also what PSU to get.

Let me know if I have missed anything.

Not even sure you need a CPU like the 555, maybe go for something cheaper like the 245 which should be plenty powerful enough:

Maybe to cut costs even more you could go with just 2GB RAM as it'll just be a server?

EDIT: Went onto the Antec psu calculator - you shouldn't need more than a 400w supply, and the Corsair seems to be on a mega deal, I'd go for that:

That's right, you'd need a SATA adapter for more ports. Unless you opt for a motherboard that has a large number of SATA ports, but hardly any support 8 or more (esp with RAID)... but if you're going to spend an extra £60 odd on a PCI adapter, you may as well plough it into a really good motherboard with lots of SATA ports (if one exists...!:))
