Fractal Fan Controller

I got a fan controller with my Define R2. It came with 2 cables - one to connect to molex and another to connect to 3 fans. I've connected it up, but when I power the PC up the fans don't spin. Other fans do, but these don't. I've tried twiddling the dial but nothing seems to work.

For diagnostic purposes, would it be OK to power the 2 fans I've got on the Fractal splitter from one header on the motherboard?

I've just been wiggling some cables, I think it's an electrical connection - they spin up for a second, and then go off again. Thanks for the tips though.
