So, 'I subscribe therefore I am' is becoming more and more a thing.
And everyone wants a piece of the media pie.

But can they all survive? Just read on BBC Disney plus needs 60mln subscriptions to become profitable
Netflix only has about this many.

Then you have apple, amazon etc

Its looking like a subscription to all 4 is 30ppm over 40 with TV licence, many people have sky
I personally don't think people will pay that. No one platform will have enough content.

At the moment I only have Netflix and as much as I love Disney, they mainly have film content rather than series.

Can they all survive? Or are they going to destroy each other?
Netflix must be vulnerable unless it can become self sufficient. More likely they will be bought in the long run.

Thoughts ?

Love Netflix myself and its only one I'll consider paying for.
It's a shame there can't just be 2. But everyone wants the pie. But not everyone will succeed

I like Netflix original content. Just started watching dragon Prince. Things like this keep me on it. If Netflix can create more content I think they can survive. But they will always have to be on it.

I'm not convinced by Disney. I do wonder if you will have to commit to 2 year contracts soon. But people will likely still rotate.
There must be a max amount people (in general) will pay.
I think that's 2-3 services or 20-30ppm

If it was just the streaming services then I think we could see some fall to the side. However with Disney or Amazon behind them then I'd imagine they could be supported almost indefinitely even if the streaming side doesn't make any or much money.

Netflix is the odd one out though I'd argue they're big enough to have enough pull on their own.

Id say Disney and particularly Netflix are at biggest risk of failure

Netflix seems like it has to rely completely on its own content as others may well get bought or be on their own platform

Disney I think will need to make more series or simply buy more independents,.

Can Netflix survive on independents alone? I hope so, its what I like.but no idea what the majority like.

Oh ,i forgot about brit box.. Is anyone actually subscribed to that? Sounds like trash

Piracy is looking more and more appetising I have to say.

Not really sure if TV is my future entertainment.

I don't have a TV licence and don't miss it
I don't have anything except netflix for tv
Tried prime.. Honestly.. There was one TV show I watched. Couldn't find anything else. Cancelled after trial
D+. It's OK. But again was done after month trial.

I can't believe it.. But I'm near cancelling netflix. Not due to the cost.. Due to the content.
Probably got 2 more thinga I want to watch then I'm done (Dota and castlevania)

Don't think I'll be buying a 4k TV, don't watch TV enough mow. Running out of things to watch on screen. Few netflix series to come but don't need the year long netflix sub.

Sad times as netflix really is the only service that produces stuff I like.

I don't believe they're too big to fail. They don't have what the other two major providers have - a very rich parent company, or a massive catalogue of content. Netflix has moved to try and produce it's own films/shows as it doesn't have to worry about the licensing costs etc, but some of those have really been naff.

You forget that Disney own the rights to a massive number of films. They're also going through an updated remake of a number of their classics which are likely to be very popular.

Edit: just realised these were old posts.

Echoing what others have said, I think Disney will do fine due to the huge amount of content they own, and they have other revenue streams.

Prime belongs to one of the most wealthy companies in existence, so they're not short of cash. I see they've recently just paid for rights to show all 25 of the bond movies - that must have cost a pretty penny. Prime also allows you to legitimately share your account with someone else.

Netflix is just relying on the fact they were first to market to secure their future. Considering they cost significantly more than the other two I suspect could lead to their demise.

Think the same.

Amazon and Disney are probably going to end up being the market dominators.
Amazon can afford to run at a loss. Disney can probably survive.

Neither are for me. Netflix sits on its own as my go to service. But not sure if it's sustainable.
Part of me wants to stay subscribed to netflix as long as it keeps making/buying shows I like.

Disney is a month subscription here and there. Amazon is a no no, I didn't l like the content and don't need the delivery service.

Hope netflix doesn't die off

See I've gone the other way, I've not really found great content on Netflix for a while now.

I think what we like is quite niche. No other big player hosts it. I was genuinely surprised I didn't want to watch a thing on amazon when I had the month trial.

If you just have prime for delivery then sack that off.

Amazon delivery is free offer £20, spending £20is pretty easy these days. If what I want doesn’t come to £20, I just save it in my basket until it does. There is very little I actually need urgently these days.

Agreed.
I find amazon is decent for higher value items but not for cheap items.

A 5m usb cable? EBay or Aliexpress
A robot vacuum? Amazon Black Friday.

I tried a free trial of prime + prime video. Didn't like prime video. Didn't need prime delivery.

I'm mainly in it for tv shows And I would confidently say 70% of the streaming shows I watch are still Netflix ones. Disney+ is great for Marvel but I wouldn't have it if not for that and prime I've watched like 3 series in the year or so I've had access to it.

Ah you are the same as me.
I rarely have time to watch a film. But TV series are great. And this is probably why I like netflix best.

I'm close to doing a rolling 6 months on streamers.
It's more content than cost. I'd quite happily pay netflixs price for 1080 continuously if there was constant content. By that I mean enough TV to watch 1 hour a day 5 days a week.

There is not enough of this anymore.
I think I've basically watched all the 'old' content that might have been tucked away for years that I never saw and now it's down to new content Being released.

I'd prefer netflix stick to TV shows as most of thier films are Sub par. But TV shows are average or above in general. Some are. Exceptional. All my favourite TV series (top 5)have been netflix original or bought by netflix.

But content is drying up.

Got this 6 months of Disney. But I don't there's 6 months of TV on it. I've looked.
As I said before amazon prime had 0 content I wanted to watch.

So I have to give a lot of credit to netflix. Its been our sole TV provider for 5 years and I've not needed anything else. That's some doing

Netflix expired yesterday and now have this 6 month period of D+ using tesco vouchers

Have to say after a week I'm already struggling and thinking of going back to netflix in a month or so.

Tried that Wandavision last night and I just don't get it.

There's a bit of content on there but after the disappointment of prime and now this.. I'm concerned with the impact on netflix from loss of subscribers TV in general is going to decline.

Netflix kept me going for 3-4 years and I always had something to watch. The other services feel like barren wastlands.

Stick out WV until episode 4, comes into it's own a bit but still suffers a generic marvel ending sadly. It's a unique premise that's poorly realised.

I haven't been impressed with any of the Marvel series and i'm really struggling to get through Boba Fett at the moment, it's so utterly bland.

Yeah I loved the early marvel films, as time has gone on and series after series has been released nothing has really grabbed me. I'll stick out a few more episodes. Not sure if gf likes it. It's so american, and I get it's trying to show the cliche side (feels like that anyway) but it doesn't grab me.

I see Netflix is back on the up.

As someone who gave up Netflix for a trial of D+ I can see why..

I'm back on netflix. Ran out of stuff in D+ in 3 months.

I'm the opposite to a lot on here. I literally cannot fathom the thought of running out of stuff to watch. I mean how much time do you have on your hands? lol I have access to Prime and Netflix and we have Virgin TV back home mainly for live sport. Even though I have long train commutes I never run out of stuff to watch. Prime for example currently has all the whole catalogue of Bond films free to stream. That's a good month or two for me to get through them even if I try hard!

It took me 4 years to exhaust Netflix. It took 4 months to exhaust D+.

But I have niche tastes! :D

The original principle has been lost.

Everything on Netflix would have been great, you could be paying £15, but for the entire world's catalog of movies would be awesome.

But the inevitable happened, greed, now the movie producers splitting of releasing their own services, which effectively forced Netflix into making their own content.

Netflix been the original, and that their own stuff is high quality, I will be sticking with it at least for a while, but I am never going to be signing up to all of them, the combined costs would make little sense. It would be like the days of paying £100 a month for sky.

On top of this we have the regional nonsense, "sorry sky offered us a lot so we sold some content to them, meaning you need sky to watch those movies".

It is a shame.
Netflix for me will be my default. And I'll pop in and out of the others.
Maybe a month of Disney every year etc.

So far none of the others even come close to Netflix for my tastes.

Maybe as finances get stretched some of these fringe services may fall away
