Hi,

I'm seriously considering ordering a new card tonight, but have a couple of questions first :

* I currently have a GTX570 SOC, & I'm thinking about something like one of the 7970s that are on offer. However, I intend to start uploading some game play videos to youtube, and I'm aware that recording will result in an fps hit. If I intend to use very high settings, what sort of card should I be looking at as a minimum (1200p)?

* I've heard that the new AMD cards (290s) have something called true audio. Is it worth considering?

Thanks.

One possible consideration is nVidia's shadowplay. Though I've found i.e. MSI AB can be setup to capture gameplay with minimal performance hit and only a slight trade off in the quality of the captured video.

TrueAudio has some interesting capabilities but IMO its too early days to use as a major point in purchasing decision.

Shadowplay does indeed look like something to look forward to. Just a matter of when will they finally release it?

If you're running 1200p then a 4GB card may be worth looking at.

Arc@css i managed to record myself playing bf3 using afterburner with hardly any fps hit at all. There is a RTV1 format (i think thats what it was) and the performance hit from using it was very small. So much so i didnt have to lower my settings much, if at all. This was at 1080p with an overclocked 7970.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I think I'm right in saying that the Gigabyte 7970 is voltage locked?

Correct. Of all the 7970's there, that's one to avoid. I'd go with the Asus 7970 if you want the games or the HIS 280X if you can live without the games and just want a good card.

Yeah, I think I'll go for it. Thanks to everyone. :)

Ordered. :D

Matt has to 'swear me in' by welcoming me to the red side. :D

Good choice in the Matrix, arc@css.

Also, recording causes a performance hit due to CPU usage for the most part and can usually be avoided with lesser compressed codecs or generally better optimised software.

As it requires two 8 pin connectors, do I need to buy an adapter of some kind? I've got a shed load of stuff that came with my enermax psu, though I'm not that sure if I've already got what I need.

Good call Arcy. That Matrix is some serious power for not such a serious price :)

I reckon it will come with an adapter but maybe someone can confirm who has a Matrix.

Thanks, Greg. Hopefully a matrix user can shed some light on that. :)

@ whyscotty : :D

If it doesn't come with one Arc, let me know and I will send you one out. I am sure I have one in my box of spare bits and bobs (massive box).

That's very kind of you, Greg. Much appreciated. :)

I was looking forward to Tuesday evening, and then all of sudden I noticed from another thread that it requires 8+8, and I thought....erm....:D
