Frame Rate Issues

So i've never pc gamed in my life and just thought id try it out on my laptop since i got a new monitor. i tried to play lord of the rings conquest which came out in 2009. i used to play it on 360 years ago. im having frame rate issues a lot and my laptop heats up a lot after about 10 minutes of playing it. i did turn off "wait for v sync" or something and the frame rate improved though.... but i figured i wouldnt need to do anything like that because my laptop is supposed to be powerful enough to run the game. i basically just want to know if it's not powerful enough to run it. the specs suggest it is so im confused. and if it is powerful enough to run it.... what could be messing up the performance of the game or how can i improve it? here are the specs it says it requires...

System requirements:

Processor: 2.4 GHz or faster; Intel Core 2 Duo or faster
Memory: 2 GB
Video: 256 MB compatible with Shader third model
Sound Card: Sound device compatible with DirectX 9.0
Free space on hard disk: 6.2 GB

Here are my laptop specs:

HP Envy M6-1310sa

15.6 in 1,366x768 display, 2.4kg, 2.5GHz AMD A10-5750M, 8.00GB RAM, 1,000GB disk, Windows 8, built-in AMD Radeon HD 8650G graphics processor

heres a link to a breakdown of it also: http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/lapto...envy-m6-1310sa

Can anyone help me out? Or maybe direct me to somewhere where i can be helped? Would greatly appreciate it if so. Thank you.

I've just had a look at the game you've mentioned on YouTube, and by the looks of its graphics your laptop should probably be able to handle it. Download the latest graphics drivers for your APU maybe and try again? Also make sure you don't have high levels of AA or other performance killing graphics settings enabled. Keeping vsync off is probably a good idea as you'll likely not be pushing a constant 60fps.

appreciate the reply mate. thanks a lot. didn't think i'd get one... the only problem is i don't know what you're talking about lol. graphics drivers? where do i get those? what's APU? high levels of AA? i'm clueless when it comes to pc specs and pc gaming.

Can download the latest drivers from the AMD website, should help things with your APU (CPU & GPU in one).

In the game settings AA is used to smooth edges so you don't get the ladder effect on texture edges etc, this can kill performance so would be recommended to be off.

& Welcome to the confusing but wonderful world of PC gaming.

how do i find the right APU to download? do i have to answer those questions? because i don't know how to answer them. i know what my graphics card is called... is there not a way to shortcut all that stuff?

I ended up finding the hp drivers for my laptop anyway. which ones are the most vital? and is all you have to do is download and install them? I assume the laptop does all the work for you. Still don't understand the second link or how im supposed to fill in the boxes or what they're even asking me. Also, it may be worth noting that i don't have windows 8.1. ive tried to download and install it a few times but it gets to 100% and says it cant configure and ends up configuring windows 8.0 back.

You guys have to understand that when i say im clueless, i mean im clueless. i've never installed or downloaded a driver before and didnt even know it was possible until now. Do i know my way around a computer? Yes. Do i know how it works or whats in it? no.

you can use the auto-detect and install [basically a little app that finds out what you've got and picks the right drivers]. although i haven't used it myself so i cant comment on how reliable it is.

from my searching using boxes in following order:

apu [accellerated graphics]
mobile apu
a series apu
win 8 64 bit

the driver on the amd seems to be a general one rather than specific, if you put in what i said you'll see they don't list your one specifically on the drop down list.

basically all the apu bit means is you have the cpu and the graphics all on the one physical chip using the normal ram that the cpu uses rather than a seperate graphics card.

in terms of game settings, keep vsync on to avoid screen tearing [basically what that does is waits for your screen to ask for a new frame rather than firing them out willy nilly]

i'd set everything to maximum then drop anti aliasing until i got an acceptable framerate [anti aliasing has the biggest performance hit for the least increase in visible quality, even on my 290x i'll sometimes have to turn aa off completely] if aa being off is still bad then you may need to lower other settings as well.

heating up and fans going mental is a normal byproduct of laptop gaming, i'd have it on a stand on a table to keep the intakes free and keep the charger plugged in while laptop gaming.

thanks. im downloading the driver AMD thing now. i assume all i have to do is download and install and follow the installing wizard. i dont see any anti aliasing setting on the game to turn on or off.

can't say for sure as i don't have the same game you have, you can always just play about with the settings till you find something that works.

as im installing that AMD thing my screen is flashing on and off every now and again btw. i hope that is supposed to happen lol.

yeah, thats perfectly normal part of the process.

thanks a lot for the help mate. it's still not running that great though. still good that ive updated the driver tho. ill probably just stick to my ps4. HP support assistant is notifying me that i need to update "HP Notebook System BIOS (AMD Processors)." I've updated it about 5 times and when my computer restarts after it's done it says i need to update the same thing again (im assuming it didnt work). So annoying. not sure if that has anything to do with how the game is running or if it's very important.

^^anyone got any advice on the above yet? could the bios be the reason windows 8.1 wont install as well. just comes up with this error when i try and install windows 8.1.... 0xc1900101-0x20003. if anyone has any information or answer on anything it'd be appreciated.

after downloadingg all the drivers and installing them my laptop started to overheat and now whenever i use it the fan is louder and it overheats faster and switches itself off. my laptop is now ****ed. it wont even let me connect to a second monitor ("theres nothing to send at the moment"). i will never be downloading drivers again. how do i get it back to normal?
