As the hardware reviews I've seen don't seem to test at this rez, I was hoping for an idea of the kind of frame rates you would see on the new 1900xt cards compared to a 7800GTX 256mb.

I want to be able to run things smoothly at that rez and basically need to know if I'm dreaming:)

I guess you want the 30 inch dell, if you want to use DVI you will have to have crossfire or SLi to run that resolution. Otherwise you will need to use VGA and a single card will not handle that res well at all.

why?

as long as the card has a Dual Link DVI it will be fine. Im prety sure my 7800gtx has dual link....

A single card will not cope with the lastest first person shooters at that res..You need two 512mb cards in SLI or crossfire.

I already have the Dell, and am running at 2560 on the dual link DVI port. I think the x1900xt is dual link too (both ports this time, instead of just one on the 7800 cards).

Hope I'm right, as I've ordered the card.

I don't tend to bother with AA in games so that should give me some more headroom. I'll have to see how it goes.

 i dont think anyone actually posted saying yes it runs doom 3/FEAR at 2560x1600 fine, how come you just decided to go ahead without any figures if it'll run ok or not? or did i miss something :o

I did some extrapolating with existing benchmarks and figured if i keep AA off and set other graphical options carefully I will get away with it.
I'm also selling the 7800gtx for a reasonable price while i still can, I'm after the best performance to hopefully coincide with the release of Oblivion. If it slips though, I could still use as much power as I can get:)

I am gonna say a max res of 1920x1080 for most games, some such as guild wars would be ok at the higher res and 1680x1050 for games like FEAR.

hrm, I wonder if that looks that much better at that res since the textures wont be graded this high?

you'd need quad sli to run that res decently.
im sure a single 7800gtx/1900xtx will be able to run that res without AA/AF

SLI/Xfire of those cards will run it totally fine... well maybe not Xfire

That is lower resolution, but with 4xAA/16xAF, so that gives you an idea of what kind of performance you would get with AA/AF turned down. As you can see, 1900xtx-crossfire is the bare minimum for running those kind of settings, as an average of 50fps will likely mean the minimum FPS will be down in the low 30s at best.
