This is actually for my girlfriend as shes just started playing it :( Shes got an aging pc (3700+ / 6800gs + 1 gig ram blah blah). See the problem is shes now sort of using a dell 24" screen in 1920x1200! and as a result the frame rates have gone down the toilet as you'd expect. Now, my understanding from playing with the settings with fraps up is that world of warcraft doesn't take much to run pretty well. Say if i changed the graphics card to a 7600gt, would it hold @ 60fps maxed out @ 1920x1200 or near enough? or would i need to be looking more at x1950 pro's (its agp socket, not pci-e unfortunately :( )

Any help from anyone who plays it very appreciated, i'd just like to get it running well for her as cheaply as possible, knowing it'll probably just need a graphics card change. With a 3700+ athy 64 + 6800gs (mega old now!) its generally getting 20-30fps @ 1920x1200. I know the latest dells have 1:1 mapping but shes a girl and likes all the detail /res :p

Definatly try turning down the anti aliasing (sp?), turn of full screen glow effect and disable all mods.

If it carrys on just reduce everything to minimum at max res, then bump up each setting bit by bit until it goes wrong.

what he said, i had this on a wifi laptop i used to take down the pub to play when i was working there. i found the death effect and full screen glow killed performance and also, AA.... like i said, basically what Teki187 said lol

At mega-high res id think you could turn off a lot of the detail settings and it would still look pretty funky?
7600GT wouldnt really be a massive step (if any) from a 6800GS afaik. Something like a X1800XT or 7800GT+ would be a worthwhile speed bump and both are down to around £60ish on the members market.

I had it running perfectly on a 3700+ 2gig ram and X1800XT since it came out with a ****load of addons (in the region of 60ish total) at 1650x1080 with everything but AA maxed (think I gave it the lowest AA).

7600GT would be a bit of a sideways move from a 6800GS. It's marginally faster but you aren't going to suddenly double her framerates with one of those.

x1950pro would definitely be the card of choice.

Thanks for the replies btw!

Glad a few people have clarified on a 7600gt being maybe not a groundbreaking upgrade :)

the x1950pro seems so overpriced on the agp platform though! is it a long way behind the x1950xt speed wise ?

I had exactly the same problem with my 24" dell 2405 screen, she may need to turn the refresh rate up from 60 to 75MHZ and that should sort it

I have X1900XTX in crossfire and I don't get maxed framerates in lots of areas in the outlands, especially in places like Shattrath. I'm not sure why because it doesn't look much better than the original and I used to get at least 125fps when playing through that.

I'm running at 1650 x 1080 with all settings maxed
