Hi All.

I am about to build a PC for the first time (so I am a noob when it comes to picking the best parts). For my first build I am looking for something that will allow me to complete everyday tasks quickly, as well as a little bit of gaming if I feel like it - so basically a mid-range system. I have done a lot of research myself but I would appreciate some feedback on the choices that I have made so that I can make more informed decisions. Budget is £900.

The Samsung Evo is a good alternative to the Pro and 8gb of ram is more than enough for gaming. Also an alternative motherboard to take a look at.

Ok yeah - I may have gone a bit overkill on the RAM :D. Bear in mind though this is not just a gaming build. I am at uni, I do a lot of programming, so there is gonna be a lot of stuff going on at once - you still think 16GB is too much?

That's two guys who have recommended that motherboard in this thread - any particular reason?

Depends on the nature of your programming but if you will be running SQL and/or Oracle then the more RAM the better as they see RAM and eat it and cache itself there. Also, having big Visual Studio projects open will tend to use a fair amount of RAM too.

So, with that in mind, 16GB RAM would be much better than 8GB for this type of programming - I run with 16GB and find that 8GB wouldn't be enough for me.
