Fraps has started lagging?

Been using fraps on this particular system for the past 9 months or so and it's worked flawlessly. However since yesterday out of nowhere it started lagging and stuttering hugely as soon as I pressed record and obviously the clip plays back showing that lag, I've tried reinstalling fraps after uninstalling it and even deleting all the clips I had stored. I've also redownloaded the program and tried installing that fresh after downloading, but the problem of the game becoming unplayable and stuttering once I'm recording remains and I have no idea why. Sometimes it improves if I don't move and leave fraps running for about 2 minutes first but the resulting clip is still useless.

Is it a gpu problem? ram problem? Something else? A sudden conflict? Any ideas?

Nah it's every game. Would record fine on every game and now over night it suddenly makes every game unplayable :S

hm windows updates did download something to do with my card a couple hours before, can't remember what though :/

Well there was no update I can find now, however on the little 'flag issues' icon on the tray in the bottom right, one of them that has popped up is 'install your drivers'. I uninstalled my old drivers yesterday and installed the new ones, and my card is a 5850. I've got CCC working and everything is working fine, but it's still flagged and telling me I need to install 5700 series drivers, despite me having a 5850 and up-to-date drivers :S - I started getting the fraps problem before updating the drivers so the drivers aren't the issue but i don't understand why windows is telling me drivers I don't need, need to be installed.

Could be that the drive you are recording to has become fragmented - far and away the most likely cause of lag in FRAPS recording is drive performance as that is the bottleneck.

Try recording to a different drive if you have one, if not then delete some files and defrag.
