FRAPS in 2021?

After a long, long, long, time away I'm having a dabble in Windows gaming again.

Went to get FRAPS, but see it's been left to die. What is the best modern alternative? Bandicam?

For an fps counter or recording? If recording look up obs

OBS Studio if you're into streaming,
Windows Game Bar if you want to use something native,
Nvidia Shadowplay if you have an Nvidia card,
AMD Radeon software also has a recording feature if you have an AMD card.

It really comes down to personal preference of which one fits best for you.

I’d recommend MSI afterburner in that case.

Most games have fps built in, just gotta figure out how to turn it on.
There's an overlay in Steam too, in Steam settings somewhere.

my nVidia drivers have the option of displaying fps in the top corner.
Windows Game Bar ( or whatever its called ) offers the same.
Steam has an overlay.
EA origins has an overlay ( Apex legends has an fps option within the game itself )
etc etc

you shouldn't be needing FRAPS.
