I tried recording some CS and CS-Source over the weekend but it just kills my silky smooth framerate :(

Am i doing something wrong? is it just me or is there some kinda fix for this?

I think when you record, fraps actually sets a frame rate limiter or soemthing like that, have a look at the settings to see what it's set at. I think it's 25fps by default.

yes it does lower your FPS. To get your frame rate up you have a couple of choices that i can think of.

1. Record to a differnt hard drive
2. Lower your screen resolution and hope it helps

oh ok i thought that setting was just how many fps' it would record at, didnt think it would affect the in game fps tho. Pretty sure its set to 25 so i'll try that but it seems much lower while im playing... more like 15.

I didnt even think about recording to another hdd :o i'll give that ago aswell when i get home.

Cheers guys.

EDIT: Just remembered that it recorded nfsmw just fine so shouldnt it be just fine with cs?? and also when the vids are played back they are a lot smoother than when im ingame :( it does the same thing if im playing whilst loading the servers list on both CS and Source aswell.

You need an insanely fast system to do on-the-fly recording during gameplay without it affecting framerate, I'd say an FX-60 writing to RAID0 raptors at the bare minimum. You also need to turn the resolution right down.

A far superior option is to record a standard in-game demo while playing, and then take video capture from demo playback. This is how all the 'pro' gaming movies are made and means that you don't have to cope with your harddisk being written to 30 times a second and the subsequent lag which accompanies that.

how comes it works fine with nfsmw then? i can accept a slight drop in fps but somethins just not right with cs.
