Hi,
hope this is the correct place to post (long time lurker).

Trying to overclock my rig to achieve 60fps solid in ryse, when i launch FRAPS it reports my frame rate to be 52-58 FPS, how can this be as vsync is on?

My understanding is that the frame rate with vsync would either be 30fps or 60fps?

Just to add to this, eurogamer have done their Face off on Ryse, http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-ryse-pc-face-off

They have posted a youtube video showing performane with vsync enabled on the 980 R9 280 & R9 290
In that video

The R9 280 reports 49fps, clearly it seems that my understanding of vsync is incorrect, has everything moved to adaptive vsync now as default, what is going on?

Even reading up on the subject

Essentially this means that with double-buffered VSync, the framerate can only be equal to a discrete set of values equal to Refresh / N where N is some positive integer. That means if you're talking about 60Hz refresh rate, the only framerates you can get are 60, 30, 20, 15, 12, 10, etc etc. You can see the big gap between 60 and 30 there. Any framerate between 60 and 30 your video card would normally put out would get dropped to 30.

Going to try and answer my own question, with FRAPS am i seeing what the graphics card is renedering (say 50fps) but only 30fps are sent as updates to the monitor?

Not happy at all with that so can anyone let me know whats going on? (Fraps margin of error perhaps?)
