*Update* i can actually view the videos in Windows Movie Maker and any .avi file splitter etc

Is there a difference between the recorded files you have and the version of fraps you now have installed?

Ok, next step... download GSpot.

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/GSpot270a.zip

It's a diagnostic program for video files. Once it's open, load up a video file and it will tell you what audio/video codecs it requires and if you have them installed.

Hey thanks for the link again, ran it and it said i have the codec :/ and at the bottom test thing, if i click on the 1-2-3 test on the bottom left i can see video, but if i click on the 1-2 test for the MS A/V, thats where i cant see video and it looks like the picture above, want me to post the outputs things from the test?

Nope, everything closed, tried reinstalling fraps restart then try n play before anything else openes and still no luck :/ i dont really want to reinstall xp again lol :/

It should just work, Fraps installs it's own codec when you install it, very strange that it doesn't play back

Yea thats whats happened like the 5+ other times ive reinstalled xp and fraps its just worked but not this time, and as to above about memory corruption dont think so, games all run fine, nothing has changed bar a new HD, i could uninstall all codecs, but how do i uninstall fraps codec? do i just uninstall fraps should that do it? then i will give that link a try, also if i try and open it in Quicktime it actually says missing a codec and only plays the audio, but from using that coded identifier it says i do have it lol  really confused

Woot finally got it working, i had to do quite abit of fiddling, finding codecs and uninstalling, but all i needed was that K-Lite codec repairer thing, it found that the fraps codec was corrupt and removed everything, then i reinstalled fraps and now all works ty all for help :D
