Yeah I recorded some Oblivion and theres quite a few files equaling up to over a gig, so I know how to piece them together with Windows Media, but whats the best program to un/compress them so they are much smaller? but I want to keep the same good quality. I did them at half size with no sound.

AutoGK does fairly well I think. I don't have much experience with this at-all, but it was the only one which gave me allright quality with a 30MB file when uploaded to youtube. I tried to do it with virtualdubmod and DivX but the sound was a major issue..

Compressed with Windows Movie Maker (and with no sound):

Compressed with AutoGK

both compressed to about the same file size. They're fairly similar quality before uploading to youtube though. As you can see AutoGK turns out much better after upload - in this case at least

Edit: AutoGK does use virtualdub btw :)

yup

use virtualdub (and download xvid codec too) to encode it

use autogk if you can't be bothered to join bits together and just want to compress a certain avi file!

quick question from me now: does XVid with VirtualDub compress sound? I can't see any options relating to it in the configuration. Like I say I tried DivX with VirtualDub but that was before installing AutoGK (and XVid with it)

Hi mate, I have a nice little program that compress' the file and keeps the same quality etc.

For example, goes from 426MB down to just over 4MB :)
