Freaky usb problem

Hi all

Turned my pc on today and my usb wi-fi adapter (d-link dwa-111) was not working no light on and windows xp was not detecting it as if its not plug in so plugged it into the port next to it and it worked.
So tried 2x usb thumb drives my keyboard and mouse a xbox 360 pad ect ect all worked fine so I plugged it back in to the original port and nothing.
As it was a port on the case I swapped it from the first usb header on the motherboard to the second header and what do you know it worked in the same usb port on the case that it wouldn't work in before I swapped motherboard headers.
So just wondered has anyone come a cross something like this before and any idea what's going on I just find it strange that up to this point it was working fine.
Don't know if its case, motherboard or the adapter?

So other items work in the usb port that the D-Link has stopped working in ?
