Hey guys,

For various reasons, I'm going to end up having a hosted server in a datacentre, and one of the main things I would like to do is completely move my current cpanel based hosting to my own colo box. There are about 8 sites and domains hosted on my reseller account atm.

Cpanel is the obvious answer, but it costs a fortune for a small scale project, and they don't appear to have an offers for low number of users!

What free or inexpensive if free isnt available alternatives are out there that will allow me to import directly into it from the backup.tar files created by cpanel?

Cheers,

Tom.

DirectAdmin is available at around £5-£10 a month IIRC. I hope you're confident managing a server. :o

cPanel should only cost you about £20/month +VAT if your colo provider is a cPanel partner - a small price to pay for the power and ease of use it provides if you have your own server :)

I'm pretty sure you can't provide an internal license on a co-located server but I might just be getting mixed up with SPLA. Yeah I think that's just SPLA actually. :o

That said, I'd imagine the OP is paying ~£50 a month for some cheap co-lo so £20 a month plus VAT is a big % increase on his fees.

Ah in that case it's an external license, quick Google shows that for around £30/mo with cplicensing....probably not worth it given that with cPanel or DA you'll still have about the same server management needs in the end.
