Free Anti-Virus Software

Well, Avast! wouldn't even install on my Dad's Vista laptop, so I'd go with Avira. Also, PCTools do a pretty good free AV program too (link is in the sticky at the top of the forum).

I had an issue with Avast! on my sister Evesham Laptop, in the end I put on AVG.

I heard avira has the best detection but avast is good as well, i decided to try something else after avg's recent nag popups and then the linkscanner annoyance with web servers, so im using avast atm.

Though i have a few issues with the web shield, do you think they're ok privacy wise because i don't like the idea of all the data passing through it tbh, also i use a firewall to set what can and can't pass but this web shield acts as a proxy so anything can get through it whether its blocked or not i believe?

If we hadn't bought the Network Edition of AVG in work I'd be using Avast :)

It's my main AV on nearly all the machines I use.

The free version of AVG is really parp these days unfortunately, it seems to highjack more of your system than it needs to to be honest.
