Free Apple apps on not new apple device, A tip :)

I got used macbook and was thinking to buy apple apps, but first downloaded trials to see are they worth it. i dont know maybe everyone knows this but... if u install any old trial version of apple apps iWorks, Garageband, iMovie, you will get free upgrade to full new version from app store, and it end up in your purchases so you will save few £. I dont think it works with expensive apps like logic ect.
