Free AV recommendations?

Avast seems to be the most popular free AV, I've not used it myself for a long time but I found it wasn't a patch on NOD32 or Kaspersky. Perhaps it has improved.

Give Avast a try, has recently been updated to [supposedly] provide spyware and rootkit protection for free aswell.

i couldn't get avast to install on my dads vista laptop. it crashed before it even started installing!

i've got him up and running on pctools free antivirus and that seems pretty decent. picked up something that avg missed (although that's not hard!)

Another vote for Avast
+1 again as well.

Just a couple months ago, AVG which I used to use loads found loads of viruses but couldn't remove them. Installed Avast and bang, the crap was gone! And just cos I was interested, i reinstalled AVG afterwards and it couldn't find any more viruses on the pc. Never gone back to AVG since.

my sister's have used avast for 6 months. she brought it home i looked at it, spent 3 days clearing out viruses, fake viruses, trojans and what not.

i think there were 14+ trojans and spy ware. (not including cookies). 3 fake viruses that prompted you to buy crap software.

avast picked up nothing.

I used
spybot S+D
malwarebytes anti malware
super antispyware
adware 2007
stinger
hijackthis
combofix

avast found nothing... took 3 days of scanning but now her laptop boots up twice as fast and runs much faster
