Free .avi 'cutter.'

Hey guys,

I'm after a free .avi compatible program that will allow me to cut up/edit files and then let save the final edit back as a .avi.

I don't really want to have to pay anything as I'll literally be using the software once I had a look in the Freeware thread but became a bit overwhelmed...

Any recommendations?

Although, how does one deal with variable bit rate audio? A warning message informs me that the resulting audio may be out of sync.

Is there anyway to actually install virtualdub; atm I'm running it from the downloaded .exe all the time...
