My other half is going next week for work but due to various reasons the social evening with colleagues on her last night is cancelled. She's been before and well aware of the city's rather sad decline and is seriously considering changing her flight to come home a day earlier. I'm trying to pursuade her that surely she can (a) find a colleague to have dinner with in the evening and (b) find something to fill her last afternoon with on her own. But as we know, it's not really a city for walking aimlessly (she has one colleague who still lives in the centre and has drawn a map of places that are safe/not safe) so she'll really need a plan.

Any ideas? First searches aren't really coming up with much, as she's already done Alcatraz and the most obvious touristy things. I'm a bit bemused because I thought she'd enjoy the time away from me ( :p ) and no-one could complain about having free time and a nice meal on the company dime

Does she have a rental car? Sausalito is nice and has some nice food places.
No she won’t be hiring a car. Looks like it’s a bit far for an Uber. Sounds like she now has evening plans so maybe just something to pass an afternoon in central. I told her to go find a posh hotel and have a spa day :p

We did an open top bus tour there which is good for a couple of hours if I remember right. Your wife won’t need to get off if she doesn’t want to so no safety problems. At the very least she can get off at an observation type point for the Golden Gate Bridge which is a bit further out so much safer.

Was super misty when we were there so we didn’t see much and one of our fellow passengers got a rather large present from a bird land on her head which both provided a certain amount of laughter in their own right.

If only 1 day I would go to Alcatraz, then afterwards, since you are at the main pier, walk around there, grab a meal and beer. Touristy but I enjoyed it. Also could go to the nice little beach near the Golden Gate Bridge to take in the view/ have a nice walk.

Edit - sorry just read the end of your post saying already done Alcatraz and touristy stuff. My bad.
