Free Donnie Darko DVD this weekend in the Sunday Times. (http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,27449,00.html)

I've only seen this a couple of times and it's one of those films that needs a couple of watches.

At IMDB it's got a rating of 8.3 and is number 97 in the ratings.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246578/

“During the presidential election of 1988, a teenager named Donnie Darko sleepwalks out of his house one night, and sees a giant, demonic-looking rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. He returns home the next morning to find that a jet engine has crashed through his bedroom. As he tries to figure out why he survived and tries to deal with people in his town, like the school bully, his conservative health teacher, and a self-help guru, Frank continues to turn up in Donnie's mind, causing him to commit acts of vandalism and worse.”

No, no and no.

Do NOT watch the Directors Cut. It's terrible in comparison. He changed all the music and it's just pants.

I repeat, the directors cut is nowhere near as good as the theatrical cut.

Quoted for truth

DC seems to be very simple compared to the theatrical also, spells things out way too clearly.

I finally got round to watching this film a couple of weeks ago when I picked up the DVD cheap, not the Directors Cut though so I'll probably grab the Times tomorrow :)

has anyone actually completely worked out what the whole thing was about? I've seen interviews with the director and to be honest I don't even think he completely knew. It was such a complex film especially when you think he was only 24 when he wrote and directed it. I thought the soundtrack was fantastic even on the directors cut version.
