can anyone point me to a 'good' free DVD software program, nothing fancy just wanna watch DVD's in something other than WM10

mpc+ffdshow is the daddy. You can also install quicktime alternative and real alternative and do away with having quicktime and realplayer installed:)

I use VLC, but it sometimes can get a bit picky as i've found it doesn't quite play everything!

I didn't know there was a quicktime alternative, thanks for the heads up :)
edit - there's something called G-spot (haha) that identifies what is required for e.g. avi files.

i didnt either actually. i just happened to see if there was one after installing real alternative and there was:) it works very well, too:)

Yep even gives you the option to 'Download' HD Trailers (etc) rather than stream 30odd Gig+ to your 'poota... very nice and don't cost a bean!... (unlike Quicktime Pro!!)

How does MPC/QA work with sites like Apple.com where trailers are embedded? Does it just open MPC or do you still view it in the page?

when you click on the links you first get the choice to stream it or download. After that you can choose wether to view in the page (identicle to regular quicktime) or open mpc:)
