Free Dynamic DNS Service

Hey all,

I currently use noip.com to redirect a hostname to my ip address so that it is easier to remember than my IP for remote access etc.

Their free service asks me to re-confirm the domain is still in use every 30 days or it expires.

I just wondered if anyone knew any other free redirect services that I could use instead? I thought I remember using a service in the past that didn't ask me to re-confirm the domain every month...

Hi Marky,

I personally use: http://freedns.afraid.org/

Don't have to register monthly as with no-ip and is completely free, overall a good service and I've had no issues.

I wish NO-IP had a $3 per year option for a single DNS entry. I hate logging in to confirm it and there's no way I'd pay $45 or whatever for the year for 25 entries.

NameCheap offer dynamic DNS as standard(?) and domains cost peanuts, they currently have a 88 cents first year range(though other very cheap offers crop up regularly). Start up a chat session with them if you have any questions.

Only if you want more than 5 hostnames, or use your own domain. I don't think OP was after that? Just something easy to remember.

FWIW, I just bought a couple of host names and have set them up with a free Dynu account. Within 5 minutes they pointed to my home server. They also offer email for $10/year but I'll probably try to set up my own email server instead.

EDIT: Used Zoho email in the end. Free for something like 25 email accounts on a custom domain name.

I have several dynamic DNS websites setup and use https://dnsomatic.com/ to keep them all in sync. DuckDns is my favorite though.

DuckDNS is free and handy. Unlike No-IP et al it won't time out every X weeks or whatever.

Not for general use, I used the ASUS service for a few years back when I had an ASUS router. The good thing about using the paid service with Afraid that I'm on now is that I can use my own domain name. I also use Afraid's nameservers which means I can do all my records with them too allowing me to use certain subdomains for Google services and others for multiple redirections. For example...

www.clanlawrence.co.uk goes to my home hosted website (Nothing on it yet btw)
radar.clanlawrence.co.uk goes to my home hosted ADS-B server
mail.clanlawrence.co.uk goes to Gmail
nextcloud.clanlawrence.co.uk goes to my home hosted Nextcloud server
dad.clanlawrence.co.uk goes to my dads house so I can remotely fix his computer, lol.

My router automatically updates the records that are pointing to my home network and my dad's router updates his IP with the record pointing there. Plenty of scope for expansion too.
