TrueCrypt. Its disk, not file encyption though.

do you use xp pro?

if so properties of the file, advanced, encrypt! -make a backup recovery file thingy tho, just incase

I only have XP home.

That True Cypt does look good but I only need to encrypt a folder.

I think it needs it own partition or something. I'll keep reading.

axcrypt may be what you're looking for

You can create a secure folder in True Cypt. You just have to mount it first.

I use True Crypt and it works brilliantly. There's a great tutorial on their website to show you how to set it up and once you've done that i'm sure you'll be pleased with the result!

TrueCrypt is great if you want an encrypted hidden drive but you could also try Folderlock for password protecting individual folders and files etc..
