I have just terminated my Symantec account after it has failed at protecting my computer for the second time, my PC uses F-Secure which i pay monthly for and i have never had a problem but to use it on 2 computers is a bit expensive and i cant afford it for a few weeks.

is their a free antivirus on the net, anything is better than norton in my opinion.

Ive used AVG for a few years now and I think its one of the best free ones. My Only experience with F-Secure was with a friend's PC. It caused nothing but problems with it.

But yeah, for free, I vote AVG.

I just noticed - your thread title says firewall, but your post says anti-virus... which do you want? :p

I don't use a software firewall, just the hardware one in my router

yeah, sorry about my mistake im after a firewall.

I have a Wireless router which is TSK-IP protected, and from my knowledge i think that it protects anyway because if i were to get hacked, they would only be able to control the router and not the PC unless i have it connected in some way to a remote control program.

its just im perfectly happy with my F-Secure suite but my laptop which my dad uses to do banking and order his music etc is worried that he isnt protected.

i will check this comodo firewall out see if it will run, i will take anything except symantec after i paid for a year of it and end up being totally useless.

takes up huge amount of system resources not that it matters but is a pain starting up.

It's a type of encryption technique for WPA (although I think he means TKIP), and he's talking about his Wi-Fi getting hacked rather than a computer through the internet.

Just an off-topic note but if your Wi-Fi is hacked then your PC is as vunerable to an attacker as if it were directly connected to the internet (perhaps even more so with more ports open to the LAN than the WAN like file sharing and the like).

Getting back on topic Comodo Firewall is the best free one i've used :)

I've been using Zone Alarm free edition for years. Would I be better off using a different free one? ZA seems to be effective.

i can never remember the encryption, when i started learning about 100baseTX, 100baseT, 802.3(.5) etc just put me right of remembering standards ^_^.

its actually TKIP protocol i use and WPA-PSK for passphrase encryption, or something like that.

not that i would be on IPX/SPX or anything like NETBeui :D
