Hey there

Well I have just installed a new hard drive on my PC (cos my old one crashed) and so have had to reinstall Windows and all of the different software I had on my PC. But my Norton Antivirus is messing up when I try to install it and theres no way I am going on the internet without internet security software so could anybody recommend me some good, free internet security software thats as good as or better than Norton? I want something with a firewall, intrusion prevention etc and when I am trying to access programs some form of notification appears so I can either allow or disallow the program from accessing the net.

Thanks for your help and time.

AVG anti virus and stick with xp firewall :)
2nd'ed. If you must use Anti Virus software, AVG has a fairly low overhead and picks up most stuff. XP (SP2) firewall will alert you to programs wanting to access the internet. If concerned about spyware try ad-aware.

Alternatively, you could just use a router, choose not to open dodgy looking emails and not to click on "click me" boxes when browsing the internet and not bother with the internet security software at all. ;)

Norton Internet Security is seriously bad for your sanity though. Don't be tempted to reinstall it, even if someone gives you a free copy :D

I have used Avast and was good, now using AOL (Kasperspy) free anti-virus, with adaware, spybot S&D and spywareblaster and I never get popups etc... Also I use adblock on firefox with Spyware terminator.

Saying I never get popups I get a partypoker popup once in a blue moon
