free iphone?

Anyone had a free iphone on a contract renewal? My 18 monther is up next month, wondered if its possible to get a free iphone

iPhone 3G 8GB is free on a new 18-month £45/month contract
iPhone 3G 8GB and 16GB are free on a new 18-month £75/month contract

As far as I'm aware iPhone contracts are treated somewhat differently to regular ones - I think they are the same for new and renewed contracts. I haven't heard of anyone who wasn't working for O2/CPW getting a discount on their contract.

yeah i see the regular, first time customer offer

I'm on a £35 a month, and wanted to keep it at that, but wondered if i could wangle a free one.. especially as i use 15 of my 600 minutes a month!

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to simply because O2 will argue that the contract prices are fixed by Apple. More likely is that they would offer you some useless contract addon or a free Bluetooth headset, or something.

With current demand there is absolutely no reason for them to be offering discounts.

what to do

best way for me to proceed? perhaps aiming for to grab a good renewal deal with simplicity or something, then grabbing an iphone off the bay?

or just realise renewing isn't as valuable as it used to be?

i am contemplating this to. you can get them for about 350-400 8gb o2 ones on ebay.

then there are 20/month o2 simplicity contracts with unlmited texts, data and 600 / mins, this would be cheaper over 18 months than buying a full contract.

in reality there's not a lot in it, and considering you can change plans after 9mths? the contract is probably the better deal.

one thing i wonder though is how does the warranty work on phones from the bay, especially the iphone?????
